Fine-Tuning Your Sun Salutation
with Susan Somers-Willett
Saturday, March 19, 2-4:30pm
$40 per student, In-Person limited to 10 students
The sun salutation, or suyra namaskar, is a sequence of specialized, repeated movements that ties together many modern yoga practices. However, sun salutations are often taught in ways that, over time, can cause injury or chronic pain. How do we make sun salutations accessible to all bodies and avoid injury over time? What constitutes good alignment in these postures, and why do we do them in the first place?
In this workshop, we will break down the elements of Surya Namaskar A and explore these postures in different relationships to gravity (on the floor, seated, at the wall, on the mat). We will experiment with props and learn subtle foundational cues and transitions that can transform your relationship to these postures, making them functional and fun. Come prepared to build some heat, experiment, and be ready to discover your own expression!
This workshop is for people exploring flow yoga practices for the first time, as well as seasoned practitioners looking to tailor their sun salutations in new ways. People practicing at home will need two yoga blocks, some wall space, and a sturdy chair with no arms.
