Kids Yoga Classes

At Studio Satya, we have classes for every member of the family. We hope to foster an environment where all students feel valued and welcome – no matter their age. By including children in practices that are often reserved for adults it's possible to plant seeds for their future growth. Tools of mindfulness, body awareness, and meditation may not be put to use immediately but with time, the evidence of the tending and nurturing these seeds will certainly bear fruit.

Of course, this is only accomplished through a good amount of lighthearted play, laughter, and fun. See below for descriptions of classes, and current schedules. Please note that all Kids Yoga classes are in-person only at our North-Central Austin studio, and that each Kids class has an adult class at the same time. So, you can choose to practice, run an errand, or wait in our lobby.

Class Descriptions

Below is a list of all classes and offerings available for our younger students and their families. We currently do not have all of these classes on our schedule, so if you see something that interests you let us know!

Children's Yoga

Planting seed for the future is often the way we approach our Children's Yoga classes. Learning is not linear, and its evidence is not always immediately visible. Often observation is one child's "yoga" while another does every movement and breath with the group – we believe they are both getting exactly what they need. Basically, it's all good. Getting children familiar with concepts of being embodied, finding confidence in their voice, and gaining tools to help build resilience are goals for each class. This is accomplished through working together in a safe, fun environment where we strive to help each child feel seen, heard, and cared for.

Kid's Yoga Classes

Kids yoga for ages 5-11 years old! Here, kids are encouraged to start their yoga journey through learning about yoga poses, working with their breath, playing with opposites to find balance (such as loud/quiet, rigid/relaxed), and explore some basic yogic philosophies along the way. We value respecting and honoring ones self, while also respecting and honoring the group, and strive to help each child feel seen, heard, and valued. Parents are free to drop-off, wait in the lobby, or attend their own class at the same time (same start & finish time). If your little one feels nervous, you're free to be in the room with them for their first class.

Tweens & Teens Yoga Classes

For kids ages 9-18(ish) years old, these classes are more foundational with attention to alignment in postures and discussion of yoga philosophy... but not as serious as an adult class might be. We begin working with getting more attuned to the inner world, creating time and space for self-reflection, and work outward with yoga postures, breathing exercises, mindfulness practices, and simple meditations, all meant to be accessible in life off the mat.

Yoga for Tweens: This time of crossing the bridge from young child to adolescent can feel both exciting and disorienting. Finding balance – physically, mentally, and emotionally – is something that can help in this moment and for a lifetime. Through the tools yoga provides such as strength, flexibility, focus, and mindfulness young people can begin to move through stress with ease and discover the true meaning of resilience. Information for what we cover in class will be provided to parents to help integrate at home. (Ages 9-12)

Yoga for Teens: There has always been a need for community, but it seems increasingly important to create and participate in spaces that connect with those in similar stages of life. Sifting through pressures of daily life as a teen and navigating emotions such as anxiety can be difficult, without a good set of tools. The practice of yoga and mindfulness – especially introduced at an early age – can provide a foundation that can last a lifetime. There will be time for movement, sharing, breathing exercises, relaxation, mindfulness practices, and meditation. Information for what we cover in class will be provided to parents to help integrate at home. (Ages 13-18)

Family Yoga Classes

These classes range from caretakers with crawlers & toddlers, to yoga for every member of the family. No matter which class or age, we will always move our bodies, work with our breath, and find time for connection. We make an effort to always create a safe space so there is a chance for caretakers to tend to themselves, and for children to feel confident expressing who they are.

Storytime Yoga: This is a 45-minute class reading through a special story together while incorporating movements and songs along the way. We always finish with time for relaxing.

Baby & Me: For babies as young as 6-weeks old, until beginning to crawl or walk, and their caretakers. This is a time for sharing, movement, breathing, or simply stillness. The biggest intention is connecting to others and creating a sense of community through the shared experience of this time. Mothers, fathers, grandparents, nannies, friends, aunts, older siblings are all welcome to join during these classes.

Crawlers & Toddlers: Parent or caretaker with 9-month-olds through 2-year-olds (though older children can certain try, up to 4-years-old). These classes focus on time for the caretakers while their children are welcome to explore or participate as they would like. We focus on gentle, grounding movements, and connection within for the adults, then fun songs and imaginative play as connection with the little ones. There is no expectation with how much they participate – learning ranges from watching to experiencing to playing something off to the side – but they're always tuned in to what's going on in the room. We're modeling so much for them, and they really are taking in more than we realize. Arriving up to 30 minutes late is also okay – just knock on the window if the front door is locked. We have all of the mats taken care of, snacks are welcome during the first half of class, and although classes are often the same format, no two days are the same.

Parent & Child: Parent or caretaker with children 2-5 years old. These classes begin with songs and movements, with a predictable rhythm of exercises, then move to a mix of connecting partner poses, imaginative play, breathing exercises, and always end with time for relaxation.

Family Yoga: Fun for the whole family! During these classes, we will hold space for families to learn more about themselves individually, each other, and how they work together as a unit. Classes will begin with a sharing circle, will always include body movement, breathing exercises, and will lean on the use of our imaginations, connection games, and will always end with a small moment of quiet.

Special Offerings

These classes range from caretakers with crawlers & toddlers, to yoga for every member of the family. No matter which class or age, we will always move our bodies, work with our breath, and find time for connection. We make an effort to always create a safe space so there is a chance for caretakers to tend to themselves, and for children to feel confident expressing who they are.

Private Lessons

Special one-on-one guidance, to address physical or emotional goals. A teacher will work with the child individually, then spend time with the child's caretaker to discuss what we covered during our session, any goals for the future, and tools or exercises everyone can incorporate into their daily lives. Location can be remote or at the Satya studio.

60-minute sessions (50 minutes of yoga, 10 minutes of caretaker integration)

Private Group Classes

More focused than a public class and a smaller group, this is ideal for 6-8 children at a time. We will go through specific themes such as Positive Mindset, Connection, Finding Balance, or Building Confidence and will include movement, breathing exercises, games, stories, and creative exploration.

60-minute sessions, *special pricing available for bundled sessions

Daycare Classes

For ages 18-months through 5-years-old, these classes offer fun integration of body awareness and breathing exercises through light-hearted play and songs. Ideally, grouped into specific age groups such as 18mo–2yo, 3yo, and Pre-K, each session will include a predictable beginning passing a singing bowl, working with breath, and a similar movement routine (such as Sun Salutations), with additional time for imagination-based play. Adjustments to this process are made for online sessions.

20-minute sessions per age group, $20 each session

After-School Programs

Often children are faced with a long day sitting and not much time moving. With so much static holding of a seated position, curled shoulders, backs, and necks from bending over computers & phones, they need time to find full movement & mobility of their bodies. These classes are focused more on physical movement and breathing exercises as a way to re-connect with the body while also releasing stress that may have built up through the day. Sessions to include no more than 8 children.

45-minute sessions, $200 per 12-week session  * sliding-scale pricing available for under-funded schools

Sports Teams

These sessions can be done before practice as a warm-up or afterward as a time for recovery, and intensity can be adjusted depending on timing within the sport's season. We will spend time moving the body in appropriate ways for each sport, focus on breathing exercises, include a short savasana, as well as time for a guided meditation or visualization.

Birthday Parties

Yoga-themed party or not, yoga can always add something to the celebration! This specialized session can be adjusted to suit the theme of the party, or can be the highlight of a Yoga-Themed party. These sessions can be done socially distanced, or online.
